History

The Department originates from the Department of Economics, Organization and Planning, which was established in 1950. With the creation of the Faculty of Business Management at the University of Forestry in 1995, the Department of Economics, Organization and Social Sciences from the Faculty of Forestry was transformed into three departments at the Faculty of Business Management: Department of Economics and Management, Department of Organization and Planning and Department of Humanities.

The first head of the Department of Economics, Organization and Planning from 1950 to 1964 was Assoc. Prof. Yuli Mihaylov. Then the department heads were: Prof. Dr. Hristo Sirakov – 1965–1987; Prof. Dr. Penyo Karadochev – 1988–1990; Prof. Dr. Georgi Pukhalev – 1990–1993; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikola Stoyanov – 1993–1995. Assoc. Prof. Nikola Stoyanov was elected as a Head of the newly created Department of Organization and Planning at the Faculty of Business Management in 1995. In April 1998 the Department of Organization and Planning was renamed into the Department of Marketing and Production Management headed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikola Stoyanov. From 2003 to 2011 the head of the Department of Marketing and Production Management was Assoc. Prof. Diana Ivanova. Since January 2012 the head of the department was Prof. Dr. Nikola Stoyanov, and since September 2017 – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emil Kitchoukov.

As of April 11, 2019, at the decision of the Academic Counsel of University of Forestry №37/April 10, 2019, the Department of Marketing and Production Management was transformed into the Department of Management and Alternative Tourism with Head of Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emil Kitchoukov.

By a decision of the Faculty Counsel of 10.03.2020 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emil Kitchoukov was approved as a Head of Department.
