History:

The training of students in plant protection began in 1999 at the Faculty of Ecology and Landscape Architecture and Agronomy. Department "Plant Protection" was formed as an independent structure at the end of 2003 and the first Head of Department at the beginning of 2004 was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rumen Tomov. Heads of department were also Assoc. Prof. Dr. GeorgiTrenchev, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivona Dimitrova and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanaska Teneva, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Katya Trencheva. Since 2021, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Slavtcho Slavov has been selected as Head of Department.

Department "Plant Protection" has a rich collection of herbarium diseases and pests as well as specialized training materials. The department has its own library, a large part of the books were donated by the family of Prof. DSc Stoyne Grigorov.

Lecturers of the Department "Plant protection" are actively involved in research and publishing activities of the department.
