History:
Department of “Agronomy” was founded by decision of the Academic Council of the University of Forestry (Protocol No 39/19.06.2019), through the transformation of the Departments of “Horticulture” and “Agriculture and Herbology”. As temporarily acting the position of Head of the Department has been appointed Assoc. Prof. Tsveta Moskova, PhD.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nevena Shouleva, PhD has been elected for the Head of the Department of Agronomy.
Department of "Horticulture" was founded in 1999 by a decision of the Academic Council of The University of Forestry, to ensure the training of students majoring in Agronomy. As temporarily acting the position of Head of the Department has been appointed Assoc. Prof. Krasimira Malinova, PhD.
For Head of Department of Horticulture were elected: Assoc. Prof. Violeta Todorova, PhD (2003-2007); Assoc. Prof. Maria Apostolova, PhD (2008-2011), Prof. Kiril Popov, PhD (2012-2018). Since 2018 for Head of Department of Horticulture is elected Assoc. Prof. Miroslava Hristova-Cherbadzhi, PhD.
Department of "Agriculture and Herbology" is the successor of the Department "General Agriculture", which was established in 1999 by decision of the Academic Council of the University of Forestry. For the first Head of Department "General Agriculture" is selected Assoc. Prof. Margarita Nikolova, PhD.
Department heads were: Assoc. Prof. Zhivko Zhivkov, PhD (2002-2003); Assoc. Prof. Spaska Kaltcheva, PhD (2004-2013); Assoc. Prof. Stamen Dimitrov, PhD (2014-2015).
Department of "General agriculture" was renamed to the Department of "Agriculture and Herbology" in 2015, by decision of the Academic Council of the University of Forestry. Since 2016 Head of Department is elected Assoc. Professor Vesselin Koutev, DSc.

Students are trained in auditoriums and classrooms in Building D in Student City, as well as in laboratories located in the headquarters of University of Forestry. Practical classes are held at the base of Educational and Еxperimental Field Vrajdebna, where has classrooms, orchard, vineyard, greenhouses and vegetable garden, so students acquire practical skills. Established demonstration plots of various perennial, essential oils, pharmaceuticals and energy crops illustrate the students' knowledge, and they themselves acquire practical skills by participating in the seeding of different types of cereals, legumes and other arable crops.
