The course “Introduction to Urban Design” introduces students to key elements and concepts in the field of urban environment (streets, boulevards, neighborhoods, squares, residential and public areas, pedestrian zones, over or underground spaces, transport territories and subways, green spaces, water areas, industrial areas, areas of historic importance, memorial complexes, as well as the types of open spaces for general use) and of urban design (small architectural forms; outdoor furnishings; works of monumental and decorative arts, commercial, information and advertising equoment; signs of urban communication) in modern times. The students are taught basic design principles such as complexity, scale, stylistic and compositional unity, continuity and efficiency, and more.
Understanding of specific knowledge and urban terminology is combined with practical and experimental work in the course assignments. One of the main tasks of the course is the mastering of the basic features,
