The course “Furniture Strength Design” is taught in the seventh semester of the “Bachelor” academic degree curriculum of the specialty “Engineering Design (Interior and Furniture Design)“ with a total of 90 hours under the scheme 45 hours lectures and 45 hours seminars. The study course provides the students with knowledge about basic principles and methods of strength and stiffness design of furniture structures at the most common service loads.
The dimensioning of the structural elements of furniture under compression (tension), shearing, torsion, bending, combined loads and loss of resistance (buckling) is studied. Particular attention is paid to the experimental and theoretical dimensioning of the joints of board structural elements of furniture. The basic methods of dimensioning of sitting furniture and case furniture are independently considered.
