The course includes some basic issues of photogrammetry, referring to the photogrammetric sortie, some photogrammetric instruments, analysis of the aerial photograph, photo interpretation and ortho rectification of photographs, means of measuring on single photographs and stereoscopic measurements.
Students acquire also knowledge in remote sensing methods and tools for studying the Earth's surface created at the present stage of development of science and technology, based on space technology. Issues are discussed associated with the inventory of forest resources and the determination of their status, with the assessment of quantitative and qualitative forest stand characteristics, with the mapping of the forest fund and solving a number of important environmental and forestry tasks. The exercises provide experience with advanced software for processing digital satellite images using actual satellite images of the territory of Bulgaria received from different satellites in view of their computer assisted landscape interpretation, automatic processing and computer classification.
