The University of Forestry Welcomes Its First Students in Burgas from September 23

Beginning on September 23, the University of Forestry will welcome its first students at its newly established branch campus in Burgas. The announcement was made at a press conference held today at Burgas Municipality, dedicated to the opening of the University’s new academic structure.

The press conference was attended by the Rector of the University of Forestry, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hristo Mihaylov, Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Kalin Hristov, and Deputy Mayor of Burgas Mihail Nenov. The participants presented the opportunities offered by the new branch campus to young people, as well as its significance for the development of Burgas and the surrounding region.

Beginning with the new academic year, the Burgas branch campus will offer programmes in “Landscape Architecture” and “Forestry”. The first enrolled students come from Burgas, Sofia, and Varna, while interest in the educational opportunities offered by the branch campus continues to grow. In this way, the University of Forestry is expanding access to specialised higher education and creating an opportunity for young people to pursue professional training in the region.

“The opening of the University of Forestry’s branch campus is another important step towards establishing Burgas as a strong university centre. It is important for us that young people have increasing opportunities to receive high-quality education here and subsequently pursue professional careers in Burgas and the region,” said Deputy Mayor Mihail Nenov.

“I already feel at home when I am in Burgas. This has been a lengthy process involving preliminary preparation, an assessment of the opportunities, the demand for qualified professionals and their prospective career development, the accreditation process, and the decision of the Council of Ministers. The branch campus in Burgas is now a reality,” said the Rector of the University of Forestry, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hristo Mihaylov.

The University of Forestry will develop the branch campus in partnership with Burgas Municipality and Burgas State University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov”, with additional support from businesses in the city and the region. The two universities have already signed an agreement under which the facilities and academic expertise of Burgas State University will be used for the teaching of fundamental subjects such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, and information technology. The specialised education and academic programmes will be delivered in accordance with the standards of the University of Forestry.

Practical training will be an important component of the educational process. The teaching facilities will be located in Central Park, while specialised laboratories will be available at the Dubovo Forestry Enterprise and the University of Forestry’s facilities in Ravda. These facilities will provide students with opportunities to undertake practical classes and internships and to gain direct experience of the professional working environment.

The press conference also highlighted the importance of sustained cooperation between higher education institutions, local authorities, and the business sector. Such cooperation is essential for preparing specialists whose skills and expertise correspond to the actual needs of the economy and to the development of the urban and natural environment.

With the opening of the branch campus, the University of Forestry becomes part of Burgas’s expanding academic community and contributes its established expertise in “forestry” and “landscape architecture”, and the management of natural environments. For the University, this represents a natural continuation of its commitment to developing specialised higher education and bringing its academic expertise closer to young people and the needs of the regions.

At the beginning of September, the Academic Council of the University of Forestry is expected to appoint the Director of the Burgas branch campus.

On September 23, Burgas will welcome the first students of the University of Forestry, marking the beginning of a new academic chapter for the city and the region.
